Will UK calorie counting regulations for restaurants stifle creativity?

From 6 April hospitality businesses with more than 250 employees will have to list calorie information for each dish. Items that are on the menu for less than 30 days will be exempt from the rule, but there are concerns it could stifle creativity in the kitchen. Chef warns calorie counts on...

Do you ever complain or send food back in restaurants?

I have done both. Any examples? The most recent example I remember (which was a while back) was when I ordered a pizza with an egg broken on top. I stressed to the waiter when I ordered it that I wanted a runny yolk. And well... it wasn't. They got it right, after it got sent back.

    Restaurant Menu Substitutions

I spoke with my niece today (via text), and I thought I'd relay some of what we talked about, to get a few opinions here. The scenario: she was eating breakfast in a resort hotel restaurant. She's not traveling, it's just in her neighborhood and serves the public and hotel guests. Anyhoo, the...

    Ordering Restaurant Meals

Just curious...when you're in a restaurant perusing a menu, do you ever look at a particular dish, think, "That's something my friends on CB would like to see...I'm ordering that," and that's the determining factor or tie-breaker if more than one thing sounds good? I don't think I have, but now...

Why does restaurant Bolognese taste better than mine?

Ciao! I've been trying to perfect Ragu alla Bolognese for several years (I attempt it maybe once every one or two months). I have been following the official recipe, I have used the best ingredients available to me without skimping (good meat, good wine, good pancetta, San Marzano tomatoes)...

    Restaurant Food At Home

It is very likely that here in Wales we are about to enter a second lockdown (from next Friday). The news has hit me like a ton of bricks, so decided to treat myself to a restaurant night out at home. Saw an online post for Haar At Home and decided to give it a try. We live quite a rural...

    Father's Day this year

It's a Sunday and the wife likes to organise a week or two ahead. So it's just over two weeks to go and as I normally cook on Sunday's, I made the decision. I booked yesterday my fave Chinese restaurant, Daphne's, a private room. They have two private rooms for around 12 people. Kids told...

The first restaurant I ever went to

When was the first time you went to a restaurant? When I was growing up we never ate in restaurants - unless, that is, you count the café in the Co-op department store in Portsmouth where very occasionally we would get a midday meal. I can't remember what it was we ate. First proper restaurant...

    If I owned a restaurant...

This is purely fantasy for those of us who will never own a restaurant. I think we have one or two members who do own restaurants or diners, so you guys will have to be kind to the rest of us. So - the question is: if you owned a restaurant, what would be on the menu? What style and type of...

I'm a big fan of Chinese cuisine. But I'm very picky about which Chinese place that I dine at. The trick is, for me, I try to find a good one & stick with it. Complaining in a restaurant

I don't generally complain in a restaurant if something is not to my taste, only if food is unsafe or really bad. Noisy restaurants

Lunchtime yesterday had me pondering on acceptable noise levels in restaurants. Pondering was about all I could do having given up trying to hold a conversation above the level of background noise. We were trying out a restaurant that had been recommended to us recently. It was a lovely setting...
