How are you starting your weekend

@The Late Night Gourmet and @detroitdad
I have never eaten at one of Michael Symon's restaurants. I do like him. Unlike many celebrity chefs he does not take himself too seriously. His laugh is great - so are his recipes.

Thats one of the main reasons we like him. He seems to be sincerely enjoying himself

I got up nice and early this morning, had two mugs of coffee, and actually got round starting on the "mother" for my sourdough at long last. I fed the mutt and two of the cats (my elderly cat doesn't eat too much these days and gets fed on demand). Then I snuggled up on the sofa and started reading a book. The next thing I knew was that it was 4.50 p.m.:hyper: Definitely hibernation time for me :D

Last night I played in a 19 player, 40.00 tourney. I took 4th for a hundred dollar profit. I had a good time. Had a few really good bourbons, and hung out with some friends.

Of course I didn't get to bed until 230 am. I was up at 7. I wanted to see my wife off before she went to work.

Sounds like you got about the same amount of sleep as me. I went to bed at 3 am and got up at 7.30 am to drive daughter to work (no bus that time on Sunday). Normally I get up at 11.30 am!

So in normal speak, how much did you win at poker?

He paid $40 to buy-in to the tournament. This gets you the poker chips you use to play in the tournament. When all was said and done, he finished in 4th place out of 19 people, with $140. So, that's $140 - $40 = $100 profit. The fact that he made money at all is pretty impressive.

What he said. Top four get paid.

Tourney:

Buy in is $40.00's. You get 2k in poker chips. The blinds start at 5 and 10 dollars and go up a small percentage every 20 minutes. This forces an end time at some point. Our tourney's run way to long. This one didn't end until 2am. I finished 4th at 1 am.

My strength is cash games and mixed games. I made about 700 last month in low stakes poker. That was a good month though.
All my winnings go into a poker account. This account is what I use to buy my poker supplies, poker chips, my buy ins when I play, ect....This is the way that keeps my wife very happy. I'm not using work money for my hobby.

Heck, how many people can say that their hobby pays for itself and then some :)

Sunny Sunday. Just come back home. We went to a typical osteria in Brianza area and had lunch with a couple of friends. Later I'll meet a friend of mine for a coffee in the centre of Saronno. I have to come back home before 9.00 pm. Sherlock on Paramount Channel! To watch lazy on the sofà. Nice end of weekend.
Wouldn't watching the telly be better?

Impressed! You must be good. I had a friend who made a living teaching poker and he was one of the brightest guys I've ever met. I'm more of a chess player - but I'd give poker a try.

The husband of a woman I used to work with in Germany was a professional poker player. I could never get my head round it for some reason, but I did used to play a Greek version of rummy at the local Greek casino. They were not very amused when I beat one of their best players. In my younger days I used to play blackjack at the Playboy Club in London. but only until I had enough money to buy a meal at their rather inflated prices.

One of mine can pay quite well, I did it for free.

Lose contacts every year though.

I hate it when I don't have great food to eat. As I've already mentioned, I have one day every week with family to enjoy sometimes mediocre food together. I can deal with that. But, I can't stand when I have a choice of what to eat, and it's still not great. Look...I can make great food, so not having any around means I've either been lazy or...well, usually it's because I've been lazy.

Sunday, I thought I had that frightening moment. The Superbowl (the best ever, as far as I'm concerned) had just ended. I was going to grind some beef (chuck + brisket) to make some amazing hamburgers. But, that got preempted because my wife's school (she's a teacher) was canceled because of snow. She stayed up later, so I did, too. When she finally went to bed, it was too late (I don't like cooking when I'm tired). But, I was still hungry, and I didn't want frozen food.

Then, I started looking for pieces of things I could put together. I found the oven dried tomatoes that I had made Friday. I found the bagel and cream cheese that I had bought when my wife's appointment was canceled. I found pickled Anaheim peppers from a while ago (pickling preserves them, so they're still good). And, I found the best thing of all: smoked coho salmon that I had bought when I got the bagels. I added some sliced red onion, and it became the most glorious bagel and lox that I've ever had.

When God closes a door, He opens the refrigerator.
