Does anyone else here love liquorice? I think I might be a bit addicted. The kind I prefer is hard liquorice but I like the taste of the soft liquorice as well. Nobody I know likes it like I do. My partner hates it and gets cross when he can smell I've been eating it.

I love it! And I'm with you on hard liquorice. Liquorice Allsorts are singing in my head!! I'm thinking that our American friends might not know about this candy. Its so pretty!

I do like liquorice though I've not had any for a long time. I also remember the 'twigs' pictured above.

I bet it costs more than 1d a stick now
Was it 1d? I can't remember but I expect it must have been very cheap. Remember 1d chews? I was 10 when we went decimal but I can remember getting pocket money and buying penny sweets. I think I got about a shilling a week in those days.

I bet it costs more than 1d a stick now

Well its £2.99 a packet and there seem to be 15 sticks in a packet. So its about 20p a stick. Relatively speaking it might be about the same price or even cheaper... but I don't know how to work that out! I mean obviously 20p is a lot more than 1d at face value - but I wonder if it is a lot more relative to income.

According to https://www.measuringworth.com/ukcompare/relativevalue.

£1 in 1971 is equivalent to £21.30 in 2015 if we take into account average wages

£1 = 240 x 1d (old money) so 1d is equivalent to 2130p divided by 240 = 8.875p (call it 9p)

So 1d in 1971 = 9p now.
In which case (if my maths is correct) the sticks are just over twice as expensive. But I'm not entirely sure my maths is correct!! :hyper:
