I've concluded that you cannot expect to buy a precision measuring instrument for 5 quid. Today, I took delivery of 1 kg of minced beef which measured 1 kg on the scale. As I only wanted 500 gms for tomorrow, I halved the pack and the two halves weighed 507 gms and 492 gms respectively.
