What's the difference between a wet rub and a marinade?

(I live in a wet rub country )

In the US, a wet rub is usually a fairly thick paste that you "rub" on, while a marinade is a liquid. A dry rub would be just a mixture of spices and/or herbs, salt, pepper, etc, i.e. all dry ingredients. Basically though, they all are a marinade in the end.
