we have small fish called whitebait, they are a delicacy here, caught as they swim up stream in big nets.
Then add a bit of chopped mint and eggs.

These are worth around $100 kg. People make a living catching these.

Fried whitebait used to be a popular dish here and is still available. However, I think there are restrictions on catching them these days because, since they are the young of various fish, harvesting them in large quantities can affect the fish population.

Harvesting fish when they are small and before they have matured means they have not contributed to the growth of the population; therefore significant harvesting of juveniles of any stock can have a disproportionately large impact on the health of the population. Small fish are also important prey for other fish, marine mammals and bird species.
