Australia has introduced legislation restricting access to certain social media platforms for users under 16 years old. Similar regulations are being considered or implemented in other countries (UK, Europe, New Zealand, Brazil, Denmark, Indonesia, Malaysia, Spain, Singapore, USA (Virginia and Utah)).

CookingBites is not a general social media platform. It is a themed, educational discussion forum focused on food, cooking, recipes, and related learning. Participation is content-driven rather than based on social networking, personal profiles, or general chat; as such, forums of this nature are not currently classified as social media under Australian legislation.

That said, the regulatory landscape is evolving, and enforcement approaches, particularly across different countries, are not always clear. As the site owner, I have a responsibility to take reasonable steps to demonstrate compliance and good-faith governance.

For this reason, members are asked to enter their date of birth in their account settings. Your age does not need to be publicly visible. This information is used solely to help confirm that members meet minimum age requirements and to support compliance with applicable laws.

Providing your date of birth helps protect you and the site and allows CookingBites to continue operating as a learning-focused community rather than shutting down due to regulatory uncertainty.

You can update your date of birth here: https://www.cookingbites.com/account/
