My best purchase in years: a cast-iron grill pan. I use this cooking utensil to make fish, steak and chicken. The results are always tender meat with a crust - a winning combination.

That looks a lot nicer than the one I had. I bought mine at Wal-Mart several years ago, the brand was Lodge I believe. It was way too thick and heavy, and the grooves were too close together to it was hard to clean. I know you're not supposed to use dish detergent on them, but when I tried to just clean them with water and scrape them down with a wire brush, the pan would smell when sitting in my cupboard - I was worried it was going to start attracting bugs or pests. They do cook really well, but you have to be careful with all the smoke they give off.
