Barbados Cherrys

They are used as shrubs in south Florida. Though the name indicates "cherry" they taste nothing like any variety of cherry I've every had.
 
I´ve got a tree in my garden. They´re called semeruco in Venezuela. Fresh, they´re slightly acidic; if you cook them, the flavour is a sort of cross between an apricot and a plum.

I wish I had a Barbados cherry tree in my yard! They are a bit tart but they make good juice, and I've heard they are very high in vitamin C.

No, my home's previous owner must have gotten the memo mixed up, because what we have is a Surinam Cherry shrub, and the fruit is pretty, but tastes pretty awful :laugh:
