Building a BBQ Pit... Is It Difficult?

We've been discussing having a bbq pit for a few years now but never got down to the actual planning part. Have you done something like this... if so, did you find it as easy as some of the online plans make it seem, or are there possible snags that the plans never mention?

It's an exciting thought, and we have the perfect spot for it, but I'd like to know what to expect before we start with a project like this.

I have seen the men in my family build barbecue pits. It's easy if you know what you're doing. Expect to spend a bit of time in the process. Invite over a fun relative or friend to help out.
