• I’ve added a casual chat room to CookingBites as a place for off-topic banter, light conversation, and short-lived chit-chat that doesn’t belong in forum threads. The chat room is informal and lightly-to-not moderated, with messages being temporary, so it’s ideal for friendly back-and-forth that would otherwise derail discussions. Site rules still apply, but there’s no reporting system or expectation of post-by-post moderation - if something becomes uncomfortable, the right response is to step away. If a topic has substance or lasting value, it still belongs in the forums; everything else can head to chat.

I have purchased an add-on to enable member-to-member general banter with a 24-hour lifespan. This area is not to replace threads. It is to replace content in threads that should not be in that thread - I hope that makes sense!

By default, if I have the permissions set correctly, you will automatically be enrolled in the General chit-chat room (that was its name, not something I chose!) when you click on the Chat button/message bubbles in the Green bar above. There are rules, and by using the Chat room, you accept them.

The rules are on the right-hand side of the chat room, with the icons in the order "Rules", "Help", "Settings", and "Options".

If you are familiar with IRC then this is pretty much what that was: Internet Relay Chat. You can tag users using the @ sign and type. If you hit enter or the submit button, you will post automatically.

If you don't refresh the screen, you'll be booted from the chat room after 10 minutes of inactivity. I can change that, and may well in due course.
You can view the room history and chat for up to 50 messages when you join a room. Bear that in mind when you post anything!

The rules are here Chat Room Rules, and basically, I am going to operate a "don't come crying to me" approach.
Use of the chat room is not mandatory.

I will introduce password-protected rooms in due course.
