This year the Chinese New Year is Friday 16th February.

Will anyone celebrate? What animal are you? I was born in the year of the dog and this year is the year of the dog so I would definitely like to celebrate.

I was working in Shanghai in 1999 during Chinese New Year. We had a room on the 19th floor of the Equatorial and the sights were spectacular. However, my wife had eaten something that disagreed with her and spent most of the night in the bathroom.

Year of the Snake

Snake is the sixth in the 12-year cycle of Chinese zodiac sign. The Years of the Snake include 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013, 2025, 2037...

Snake carries the meanings of malevolence, cattiness and mystery, as well as acumen and divination. In some places, people believe that a Snake found in their court can bring delight. However, in most cases, this animal is considered evil, which scares people from the bottom of the heart. There are some idioms in China indicating the danger of this animal, for example, once bitten by the Snake twice shy of ten years.

Earthly Branch of Birth Year: Si
Wu Xing (The Five Elements): Huo (Fire)
Yin Yang: Yin

IDK about Snake. I will stick with Pisces.

@ElizabethB

Very interesting entertaining little post ..

I used to go each year to China Town, London with a group of friends. One friend is Chinese origin and would order off-menu. We always went to the day after new year so she could spend time with her family, but we found the restaurants had loads of leftover special food for us the next day. Unfortunately our favourite place closed. It specialised in seafood. I don't think we are going anywhere this year.
