Aaaah, yes. That Christmas hambone (plenty of ham left on it) went right into the slow cooker this morning along with some potatoes, carrots, onions seasoned with my favorite homemade mix of salt, black pepper and garlic powder. That's plenty good as it is, but add some dumplings to finish and it's even better.
 
I usually cook soup about a couple weeks after Christmas so that I can use the leftover ham bone in the soup. This is something I do every year, but by the time I am ready to use the ham bone in my soup, there is not much ham left on the bone. However, the bone itself still gives the soup a nice flavour. The soup is cooked the usual way, with the ham bone being the only new addition.
