I once lived in a house with 7 other people and there'd be too many dishes to fit in the sink. The car wash worked wonderfully.
Packaged unused items in bags, cartons, jars, etc. Some people, when taking or pouring out too large an amount when weighing or measuring will then return the excess to the original container. Sort of like double dipping. Like pouring unneeded milk back into the bottle or flour into the bag or jar. What do you mean by not putting stuff back in original containers?

So, they are putting stuff in their mouths and then returning it to the original container? If no, than it's not even close to double dipping! Now if they were drinking milk from a glass and then poured what was left in the glass back in the milk container, well yeah. Gross. Unless they live alone and no one else will be drinking it. Then who cares. Some people, when taking or pouring out too large an amount when weighing or measuring will then return the excess to the original container. Sort of like double dipping. Not quite, see above. So, they are putting stuff in their mouths and then returning it to the original container? If no, than it's not even close to double dipping! I’m lucky. My store has an app that Tells me aisle and shelf. My list when I shop has the items arranged in sequential order as I progress from the front to the back of the store. I also know which aisle side the items are closer to so I know whether to get them either going to the back or going to the front. This is a habit born of needing a hip replacement that took several years to fulfill so minimal walking was the objective.View attachment 144381
I'm pretty squeamish about germs, but if I pour something into a clean measuring cup and I pour too much, it can go back into the container.Well, sort of but not exactly. It does happen that for e.g. you might slightly overpour some milk into the measuring container. Point is that some people will pour it back into the original milk container.
But it's not close to double dipping unless it came up to someone's mouth.Sort of like double dipping. Like pouring unneeded milk back into the bottle or flour into the bag or jar.
Same ballpark for me tho. Microorganisms don't only come from people's mouthsBut it's not close to double dipping unless it came up to someone's mouth.
Yes, they do come from people's hands as well, but I wash mine thoroughly and often wear food preparation gloves.Same ballpark for me tho. Microorganisms don't only come from people's mouths![]()
Agreed, I'm with you on that.let’s say I need a cup of sour cream for something, and I have one container on its last legs and a new unopened one - I can’t use the same spoon to get the last of it from one container and the rest from the new container, because I’ve just contaminated the new one with the old sour cream.
And related to that, as much as I revere Jacques Pepin, I have to wince every time I see him crush some garlic with the side of his knife and then use the same knife to immediately lob off from a stick a tablespoon of butter. Yeah, garlic goes with a lot, but that would sure spoil the buttercream frosting made later with that butter!

Yes, I think everyone does. I mean, why wouldn't you double dip if you are the only one eating it?I got different "rules".
If I cook for myself, I'm very flexible, there are not many things I don't do.
If I cook for other people, I am much more careful![]()
Same here.I got different "rules".
