My husband spent time in Hawaii for grad school and fell in love with Hawaii's Kalua pork. It's basically just pork cooked underground and shredded - it has a very smokey delicious taste.

To make it at home, we get about a 4 pound piece of pork shoulder, then just one tablespoon of liquid smoke and a teaspoon of salt. Pop it all in the slow cooker on low for 8-10 hours, shred it and it's ready to go!

It's so versatile and you can use it for pork sliders, in tacos or burritos, or just on it's own over rice with some cabbage slaw is delicious!

Do you mean to say that Kalua pork is broiled pork with no spices whatsoever except for the smoke? We also have a dish like that but the pork is marinated for 20 minutes in a mixture of vinegar and soy sauce. Some people add sugar to sweeten the taste and some add crushed garlic for more flavor. But the crux lies in the roasting because good roasting would result in crunchy pork skin.
