How do you make it? As in, how do you make it taste good? How do you make your's?

My husband, who is doing all the cooking at the moment because I am confined to bed and will be for some time to come, has had 3 attempts at it so far. The 1st was good but was served as croutons to a soup. The 2nd again as croutons to the soup the next day was a disappointment, but still edible. Today he tried it for lunch as 'a main dish'. I don't know what it was but I couldn't eat it. It had no taste, so I know he probably had not put any sadly onto the bread after egging it... In guessing that the oil was probably not hot enough and knowing him he is coming with olive oil rather than vegetable oil or veg ghee. The bread was stale, but maybe not stale enough (the whole reason for the eggy bread was the fact the loaf was stale).

So does anyone have any tried and tested recipes and instructions I can send his way please? I'll automatically add hotter oil, not olive to the list... :D
