Well, it could be anything. Maybe you were served something unfamiliar and had no idea how to tackle it? Perhaps you were too embarrassed to tell your friend that what she/he had made was really not very nice at all and so you made yourself eat it. Perhaps you served food that you had messed up and watched as others pretended they liked it?

Tell us those stories!

I had a temporary housing issue and had to live on a friend's couch for a bit along with eating whatever was prepared. I didn't know she loved chili's, I never bothered with them, and the first night she fixed some awesome spaghetti and meat sauce... with a boatload of habanero chilies. I cried through that plate, eat or starve, and became one of those people over the succeeding weeks. 😉

I was ordering dried habs by the pound from the chili guy by the time it was all over.

I’m not sure I was embarrassed because I really didn’t realize I wore my shirt inside out. I had breakfast with my boss and he was just smiling at me.

This reminds of an even worse clothing faux pas. It was in the senior staff common room at the University where I worked. That was where lunch was served. I had just visited the loo for a wee and then trotted down the length of the ( packed) dining area to join a short queue at the counter. Suddenly I realised the Vice Principal (of all people) had appeared next to me. He whispered into my ear,
'I think you have your skirt tucked into your pants'. (In the UK pants means panties (underwear) not trousers.

Sure enough I had my flared mini skirt accidentally hitched up at the back. So I had unwittingly displayed my black lacy panties to most of the University staff whilst they were eating their lunch. Oh my!

I still laugh about the one above to this day.

I thought of another. I was young. That's my excuse. I served a prawn (shrimp) starter at a dinner party. Nobody said anything and I noticed nobody was exactly eating with relish. Eventually my friend said, 'maybe the prawns are meant to be cooked?'.

I was very inexperienced....
