Hey all,

Cooking is one of my favorite hobbies, but I mainly do computer engineering related activities for my work and career.

I've come across many friends who love watching videos, but also want to figure out ways to cook the stuff they have in their fridge. I've personally learned how to make recipe generators / suggesters via AI models such as that similar to GPT, but I'm thinking about elevating the app such that it can generate tutorial videos as well that are more step-by-step to guide people. This is mostly tailored for beginners and not people who can improvise very well.

What do you guys think?

Feel free to provide any feedback, positive or negative. All is welcome.

Is AI the best way to achieve what you want?
What about a well ordered set of drop down boxes?

For example a short video showing how to add an egg, how to add an egg yolk or egg white (separating them can be tricky).
Another example could explain how yeast, baking powder and baking soda work.
Another set of videos could talk about herbs and spices and what they go well with.
Then combine the components above into some recipes.

I like that idea. I cook a lot, give food courses, and lots of people greet me with "hello Chef!" which is embarrassing, because I just cook; I'm not a trained chef at all . However, in many situations I just open the fridge, see what's there and cobble something together. I always imagine that everyone else has that ability but I am completely wrong.
Just going back to basics is a really good idea. How to chop up an onion into little tiny pieces (brunoise); how to make a simple stock; how to make shortcrust pastry; how to boil vegetables so they don't turn into mush; things like that.
Then look at what goes with what, and how to combine them. Let's say you've got tomatoes, basil, oregano, mozzarella, courgettes, aubergines in the fridge; my first thought would be "Italian!" - but not everyone thinks like that, so teaching them would be a great idea.

Hey, thanks for your response. My motivation to use AI is the fact that you can generate whatever you want, but the only problem is potential bias. I might start with images first instead of videos (essentially a beefier version of mealime) and then if enough people want videos I can try that. Still trying to gauge what works though because generation can take quite a while to perfect via AI. Feel free to critique anything I just said. Any constructive feedback would be super helpful!

Hey, thank you for your response as well. I'm not a trained chef either, but I like to make food and hope other people find the joy in such a craft as well. I might start with image generation (step by step with pictures) instead of a video at the beginning since a video is a lot harder to make. Again, I could be dead wrong about things so any feedback would be super helpful!
