The MBTA has, like it said that it will do, has shut down the entire Orange Line, which will allow workers to get in there & practically do an overhaul on the line within 30 days. The reason being for this drastic decision is simple; The new railcars, 152 of them, of which 78 or so have been delivered so far & put in service, have not been doing pretty well. Derailments along with other issues have plagued the new trains with a multitude of problems & headaches, causing them to not work properly & they have constantly been taken out of service for one thing or another. Aside from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) coming in to investigate the transit agency following a multitude of problems & safety issues, the T has decided to make this one bold move, unpresidently, & fix or replace things that should've been taken care of decades ago. The old trains on the line have been in use for several decades & a recent fire that broke out on one of the old trains is part of this massive problem. Among the things to be worked on is that 3,500 feet of old tracks will be replaced with new ones, as well as new ties, new crossovers, a digital signaling system, station upgrades, new signage & more. New substations at strategic locations will also be put in. It should look new & completely refreshed when completed. The shutdown will last from August 19 to September 19. :whistling:
