More Cookery Books.

Just ordered this:

Everything about Laura Calder says I shouldn’t care for her one jot…but I must say that I dearly love her, and I still watch her “French Food at Home” series on YT, even if it is nearly 20 years old now.

This will be her third book I’ve purchased. I think she has just four, so I’ll likely buy that one before too long.

I bought a cookery book I’m really enjoying.
I buy a fair few cookery books and after this length of time cooking I usually mark two maybe three pages maximum, but this book I had to stop marking the pages, there are just so many flavour combos that sound so wrong (but also right) that I have to try them.

I can heartily recommend this if you’re bored of your sandwich game.
vernplum I don’t know why but I think this book would very much suit you.

Trying to hold off buying this one because I recently bought the sandwich cook book and like to give them all a proper run.
But….

It’s vegan cookery with an interesting slant.
Anyone know this one?
I'd heard of his restaurant and would really love to go. But I can't find a single review of this book. I suspect it is interesting to read and the photos are lovely but from looking at the contents page and a few sample recipes, I don't think I would be likely to buy it.

I watched a bit of his youtube stuff and I really liked it. Just not sure given his elevated style that I still have the patience for it.

That Brothers Grimm book might look like a bit o’ fluff…but it’s got some excellent recipes in it, and lots of sidebars discussing the subject of foods as they relate to the fairy tales. On first perusal, I’m much more excited about it than Ina’s.

One of the recipe books I really enjoyed recently (by recently I mean a couple of years or so ago) is Star Wars Galaxys Edge which contains the Disneyland recipes. There is nothing whatsoever about the previous sentence that would lead me to believe it was worth reading but it was. Got a few ideas from it and I still make them now.

I can't believe I bought a biscuit book but I'm glad I did. Oodles of biscuit ideas in the book!
That made me crack a wry smile. I thought "put that on the bookshelves in the UK, and everyone would be scratching their heads, wondering why a scone was on the front of a biscuit book."
When I was in Kentucky a few years ago, we stopped at a place that served hoe cakes. Do they count as biscuits?

My first thought was depends on the hoe but I think those are pancakes. 😆

General questions for everyone:
  • How often do you consult your cookery books? ]
  • Anyone a cover-to-cover reader or just home in on the recipes that interest you?
  • Do you browse them in your free time opening them at random pages?
  • Do you mark and annotate the recipes? Do you look at them before cooking something from them you made before as a refresher?
  • Have you got way too many?
  • Any duds you never look in now but keep them around anyway?
  • How often do you consult your cookery books? - Couple times a week, I use EYB Indexing website which is so very handy. It really has increased my usage of my cookbooks.
  • Anyone a cover-to-cover reader or just home in on the recipes that interest you? - When I first check it out from the library before I decide to buy it, I go through it cover to cover. Once I've bought it and log it in my EYB account I use their bookmarking system to create a list of recipes I want to make from the cookbook, print it then put it into the book for future reference. I realize there will never be enough time to make all the recipes I want to make but it's certainly a delicious challenge!
  • Do you browse them in your free time opening them at random pages? - Yes!
  • Do you mark and annotate the recipes? - Yes. I will also see if the recipe is on the internet and copy/paste it into a word document and put it in my computer file. It is so much easier to find that way.
  • Do you look at them before cooking something from them you made before as a refresher? - Yes and No, depends if I'm in a rush or not
  • Have you got way too many? - No. I use them so I don't see them as having too many. Having said that, I do cull them from time to time and donate to my local charity.
  • Any duds you never look in now but keep them around anyway? - A couple that were given to me as gifts
Great Questions, Vernplum!
