I've been a stepmother for 4 years, but naturally I don't expect to be given anything as my stepsons have a mom. And they don't give their mom anything usually either.
So it was a nice surprise that my oldest stepson gave me a present today. A figurine for our tabletop gaming group, to symbolise my character. That's more important for him than for me, but given that he has autism I still think he has given me a thoughtful gift because he would love to receive something like that so he thinks I do as well.
I mostly love it because it means whatever I am doing as a step parent is apparently appreciated. That he's happy with me is important to me.
