Mod.Edit: post moved to start new thread.

In boyhood, there was a mulberry tree in the lot next to our backyard. I tried ripe mulberries in my boyhood but just hated the taste. [I probably sampled them again in adulthood but found I still hate them.] Maybe I'd like mulberry pie? I love all other fruits and berries.

Do you know mulberries? Do you like them raw or cooked?
Maybe some mulberry trees produce fruit that tastes better than the fruit of other mulberry trees?

I've eaten mulberries once. They aren't a common fruit in the UK although I think they used to be more common. I think there are several varieties. The type I ate (from a garden) were rather like a cross between a raspberry and blackberry and quite sharp. They were black mulberries but there are white ones too.

Has anyone else eaten or grown mulberries?

There was a tree in an empty lot a block or two from where I lived at the time, back in '68. My Oma would make preserves and pies with them. Elderberries grow like weeds here, but I've only eaten the flowers fried. They taste like pop corn.
