Came across this article with popular dishes around the world, the original graphs comes from Tasteatlas. There's a map per region but I won't paste them all here since they are so many. I will start with an "unusual" region for me, Africa. How many dishes have you tried?

Portugal has lots of immigrants from Angola, Mozambique and Cape Verte so some of the dishes are familiar. Cachupa and muamba are common here but I never tried them. I think the only dish I tried was couscous and prawns peri-peri.

Now for something familiar: Europe.

Bacalhau (of course!), paella, confit de canard (love this), tagliatelle al ragu, wiener schnitzel, fondue, fish and chips. I feel like I'm not recognizing the names of some of the dishes...

What dishes have you tried? Which ones do you enjoy, and not? Feel free to add other maps if it's helpful :)

Interesting...it'll take me a bit to go through those, but I'm guessing just one or two from Africa, and a lot more from Europe.

I'll get back to you. :)

Well, guess I should introduce myself to Carribean and South American food!
May I interest you in a new keyboard?

Probably seven from Africa, pretty much everything from France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus. Not entirely sure about the provenance of the list though! Although the French do pretty good beef, they don't call us 'Rostbif's' for nothing, and I wasn't aware that the Welsh had appropriated faggots :)

I just went by the two maps posted here:

Tajine
Couscous
Succotash (though I don't know if it's the same as the succotash I've eaten)
Haggis
Ulster Fry
Irish Stew
Lancashire Hotpot
Faggots
Fish And Chips
Kotbullar (which I think is very close to what I'd call Swedish meatballs)
Sauerbraten
Carbonnade
Pierogi
Borscht
Bratwurst
Beef Bourguignon
Quiche
Schwartzwalder Kirschtorte (Black Forest Cake)
Schweinebrauten
Weinerschitzel
Goulasch
Fondue
Tartiflette
Tagliatelle al ragu
Spaghetti carbonara
Pizza
Soulvaki
Parmigiana

I may have eaten others, but I may not know them by the names listed above.

A few in Africa and about 15 in Europe. Lots in the pacific. I bet no ones had a hangi on here??? Or a Southland cheese roll?? There's others.

I've also had plenty of others not listed on there. There's really no way to list every kind of food in an area, I think. Bienenstichkuchen (bee sting cake) in Germany, bread dumplings in the Czech Republic, etc.

rascal I saw a hangi on a Netflix documentary about chefs around the world, I thought it must be something really interesting to eat! Not the same but somewhat related, in the Azores they use hot geysers to cook food.

I do one in a 44 gallon drum. Tastes exactly like the earthen one. I've done that as well but the drum is so much quicker. Hence the name honky hangi.

The ones I remember are paella in Spain, and gazpacho. I had Coq au vin for the first time in Paris. I've made spaghetti carbonara as authentically as possible. I had a Margherita pizza in Napoli, as one must. I was only in Africa (Morocco) for one day, and it was in 1978, so I don't remember what we ate.

I always try to eat local favorites when I travel around the US. There was no map for North America -- or Central and South America. :scratchhead:
