Autumn - and Halloween - means pumpkin time. I have to admit that I've never actually carved a pumpkin before, but my oldest daughter has reached the age where she's a bit more aware of things like Halloween and wants to join in, so I think I may have to brave it this year. I know (in theory) what to do about the actual carving, but I do have one question.
When you carve a pumpkin into a lantern, do you actually get anything for eating out of it, or is it just a case of the whole pumpkin being consigned to the compost heap when Halloween is over? The skin looks pretty tough but I'm assuming that you need a certain amount of flesh left attached to keep it in shape?
