Saffron Question

My question is this, could I just crush up that whole bag and leave it in powder form to scoop out measurements of what I need? Or would that somehow ruin the flavor of the saffron overtime?

Most recipes mean saffron threads unless they specifically state powder in the measurements. Crushed is going to give you A LOT more than threads in volume and then the taste will be off.
 
A big pinch between thumb and forefinger is enough for most recipes - so if the recipe says a tsp. then a pinch will be about right. No need to crush the whole bag! You can add the threads directly to the dish or soak them in a little warm water for 5 mins and add the saffron + water to the dish.
