Sea Scallops

On just about every cooking show I watch, I see chefs and cooks pan searing sea scallops usually is part of an appetizer. I have never personally tried a scallop and was wondering what they taste like? I do not want to spend the money on them if I am not going to like them.
 
buy them in the shell if you can,we buy dozens at work every week ,pan sear them in a hot pan,i am doing them in tempura batter at the moment,do not over cook them ,fresher the better they need to be dry when you cook them ,I always season them after cooking ,as before would draw moisture out
what do they taste like?they taste of the sea,I eat the roe as well
 
Frying them in tempura batter sounds really good, just about anything tastes wonderful battered and deep fried. That is the only way I will eat calamari! What kind of flavor do scallops have, is it a sweet or delicate flavor?
