Tartar Sauce

Super easy. You will never buy prepared Tartar Sauce again.

INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup real Mayonnaise - a good quality jarred Mayo or make your own
3 TBSP minced dill pickle
Zest of one lemon
Juice of 1 lemon (2 -3 TBSP)
1 TBSP capers, drained and chopped
1 TBSP chopped fresh dill or 1 Tsp dried dill
1 Tsp Worcestershire Sauce
1/2 Tsp Dijon mustard
1/2 Tsp prepared Horseradish
Salt and fresh ground pepper

METHOD

Combine all ingredients in a bowl
Cover and chill at least 1 hour.

Frisch's, a local chain that claims to have invented the double-decker burger before McD's, uses tartar sauce on their burgers in place of a Big Mac's "special sauce" (Thousand Island salad dressing). Subsequently, we also use tartar sauce for dipping our fries, but only at Frisch's.

Restaurants in my area always serve Tartar sauce with their fried seafood dishes. Unfortunately few are home made.
Tartar Sauce and Hummus are two things I will never again buy ready made. Three things - Blue Cheese dressing/dip.

As in Steak Tartare? Maybe elsewhere. In the U.S. there is no E.

In the UK it definitely is spelt Tartare. And yes, I always make my own though rarely with mayo as the base. I use plain thick yoghurt. I don't use horseradish or Worcestershire sauce. Maybe I should post my recipe too. Its far lower fat/calories than a mayo based Tartare.

I've sometimes made mayo based Tartare but always make my own mayo.
