A Reminder of the "Rules" (revised May 2017)
You must post up the recipe here on CookingBites during the time frame of the competition (no screenshots of or links to recipes on other sites other than crediting is permitted).
  • The recipe must contain the ingredient specified in the challenge. :o_o:
  • The recipe must have the 'recipe' prefix and the 'CookingBites recipe challenge' tag. It should also have the correct normal tags so the recipe below would have the 'chicken' and 'lemons' tags at a minimum.
upload_2017-5-27_10-53-46-png.png

  • The recipe must be linked to in this thread to indicate participation in the current recipe challenge.
  • (New) Cooking the recipe is optional, though it is encouraged.
  • (New) Photographs are optional, but encouraged.
  • To include everyone in any challenge, a suitable vegetarian/vegan/allergy free/intolerance free substitution will be permitted if the challenge ingredient is something a participant can not or does not eat, for whatever reason. What is permitted is up to the current challenge judge to decide on.
  • (New) In the event that an ingredient is unavailable regionally, substitutions should be agreed with the judge.
  • The judge's decision is final and the new winner will select the next ingredient and the time frame... :scratchhead:
  • And finally, as always, in the event of a dispute the site owner has the final say.

@ElizabethB : Congratulations ..

@morning glory: Celery is quite common is almost all gaspachos, gazpachos, stocks, stews, Bagna Cauda and cruditie platters ..

I like to prepare a juice to drink from celery stalks ..

Good choice as it is highly versatile ..

Oh, a contest! And only 3 replies?

Try this recipe for tomato smoothies:

Ingredients:

1 to 1.5 cups chopped celery
2 cups of halved Roma tomatoes
0.25 cup of chopped sweet onion
0.25 cup of chopped baby carrots
0.25 cup of chopped bell pepper
2 to 3 standard size ice cubes

Optional:

1 or 2 moderate sized cayenne peppers
0.5 to 1 cup water to thin out the final product to preference
a touch of salt to preference

Procedure:

1) Place all ingredients in a blender and run at high speed for about 1 to 3 minutes.

Serve:

1) Pour off into glasses or cups and drink up.

May make from 4 to 7 one cup servings.

Enjoy
Things move a little more slowly round here, but we get there in the end! As @morning glory says, but great recipe - can see myself moving on to that sort of breakfast in the New Year!

As you can see I've edited your post to show just a link to the recipe which is in a new thread. The reason we ask you to do this is that if recipes are 'buried' in other threads then they are nor searchable on the forum (nor will they be picked up by Google).

A note on the challenge.
You are all so talented and inventive. I am hoping to see recipes that feature celery as the STAR of the show rather than an ingredient. I know every one is busy with the holidays - one reason the deadline is not until the 15th. Plenty of time for you to put on your :chef:'s hats and get super creative. :D

I have lots of ideas - it takes me a while to develop recipes. I know lots of obvious ones but I'm trying to do something original.

I have not entered the recipe comp in ages. Life got in the way. Celery is a difficult one but celeriac is easier. Elizabeth David is one of my fave cookery writers and I'm betting I can find a good recipe in one of her books. Yeh!

Sorry about the delay, @ElizabethB, but the holiday meal juggernaut didn't stop for celery-related dishes. That, and I already had my mind set on what I wanted to make from the moment I saw this ingredient. I did post Celery Poutine to the "What did you cook..." thread. But, to make poutine, you need to make a gravy. So, I bring you...

Celery Gravy

I know, I know...I could have done this more easily with celery root. But, I wanted to see if I could do it with the stalks. As it turns out, I could. :)

The rest of the poutine will be posted later.
