Decades of leaving the house way to early to even consider breakfast, spelled dirty dishes, makes it an uncommon habit. Now that I'm semi-retired I can have it!

I spray the pan with nonstick oil and add the egg. Once it starts turning white on the bottom I pour in about 3 Tbsp of boiling water, put the lid on, and turn off the heat. Done about 3 minutes later. Not really poached or fried, mostly steamed!
Now that sounds like an interesting technique. I'll have to give that a try.

Thank you and yes. I cant stand sloppy... (It's an OCD thing from maintaining other peeps machines. If you can't do it right the first time how are you going to fix it 3 times???) :woot:

Basted makes sense. The only baster I have at the moment is under the hood of my 18yo F150 to change out the power steering fluid... :D

Really, that is a good method for cooking eggs. You don't get the splatter of grease or the energy time needs of boiling/simmering a pan of water. They're perfect everytime.

Never had home ec. but got hungry everyday. 😉

I always thought 'basted eggs' were basted in the fat they were cooked in. But having looked on the internet I found some methods similar to Barriehie's. My only problem with this method is that it hides the glorious yellow/orange yolk. I love to see it. This was my Asparagus and fried egg with avocado dressing from a few years ago (egg basted with fat all around the yolk but not over it):

I can get that with mine you just have to take it out before the yolk cooks over. I'll do that tomorrow and post a pic. MG your about 6 or so hours ahead of me so it'll be lunchtime on your end; unless I sleep in to 7 AM...

My dad used to make really good fried eggs. That involved whacking about half a block of butter in the frying pan, putting the egg is, and then basting the yolk until it was slightly less yellow. can't say I remember what he did with the rest of the butter, mind you. It probably went on top of the fried bread.
