MrsT is going to Florida, flying out Saturday afternoon. It'll take most of the day to get her up to the airport, off the ground, and me to get back home.

I was really, really looking forward to Sunday completely on my own, 100% TastyTime...and I just found out I have to work Saturday night and most of the day Sunday.

🤬 work and the 🤬 horse it 🤬 rode in on. 🤬!
While I completely sympathise with you on the first part - a rest feels so nice, I'm afraid I laughed out loud at the second part with the emojis and woke my cat up...:laugh::laugh::whistling:

If my misery can add some small amount of joy to the world, then my work is done! :)

We've just had some wonderful food and homemade wine at a small taverna, watched the sun set over the Ionian sea, then returned to our exclusive adults only hotel for cocktails by the pool.

What's this misery thing that you talk about? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

You know how when you work in IT, you're suddenly your family's personal IT consultant? Except for my and my wife's parents, I've always refused to do that. The last thing I want to do after spending all day working a job I don't particularly care for is work on something I don't particularly care for.
I'm still their consultant though I walked away from the paid side I'd that life 10 years ago.
Even just last weekend my brother back in the UK sent me a messenger message asking for support trying to set his old HP pc back to factory settings... it would do it. Usual approach there's an error message. Didn't actually tell me the error or how he'd generated it, what brand machine he was on, what version of windows... all of this as I was trying to go to bed... hang on a minute I'll turn it back on... yeah great D-------, ... long story short the recovery partition was giving him an error message, so I told him he was stuffed unless he had created the 1 time burn Microsoft windows DVD that windows 8 permitted because his recovery partition was corrupted...
Did he create that DVD to rebuild with?

At which point he remembers he deactivated some partitions he didn't recognise as being needed in windows when he was playing around trying to get more disk space! Deactivating them doesn't get you the space back Dxxxxxx all it does is make rebuilding the blxxxxxxx pc more difficult that it needs to be...

Luckily he wad only passing on the to someones daughter rather than it not working so he was able to go back in and reactivate said partition and all of a surprise to him, rebuilding it now worked! Grrrr

A little knowledge.... at least my husband has learnt from all of the years being out with me supporting computers in my spare time.

It's also why I have so many backups and backups of backups... digital photos should have come with a means of easier backups... computer failures happen fast more frequently than house fires.. and I have seen so many people lose data... and be embarrassed by what I can actually recovery if I really need to... :whistling: .

One or two have quietly asked me to not say anything to their wives... <cough>....

If you really want to know, give me your mobile number and I'll get that in to our notification system at work, then just sit back and enjoy...

You all seem to be having a great time - glad you're enjoying yourselves! :)

There are a lot of events planned for the day. President Biden will be visiting all three sites. Former Presidents Obama and Clinton will join Biden in New York. Former President Bush will be at the Flight 93 Memorial to speak. Former President Trump will be doing live commentary for a heavyweight boxing match at the Hard Rock Casino in Florida.

Well, there is a tropical storm heading for Texas. Not a big storm, but my sister is already going through all thing things that she knows are going to go bad in her head. "My house is going to flood." It didn't flood during hurricane Harvey, a once in a century storm. But she just knows this minor storm is going to flood her house.

To put things into perspective, my sister's expensive Volvo SUV got hit in a parking lot, and nobody saw what happened. She never filed a claim with her insurance company because she was just certain they would cancel her insurance, or double her rates if she filed a claim. I told her over an over that it would not happen, because her driving record was spotless. I told her how I filed a $16,000 claim with the same insurance company when I was hit by an uninsured motorist, and my rates didn't go up one penny. Nope, she was just certain she would get punished if she filed a claim. She might never be able to get insurance agin!!! So she drove around for two years with a big dent in her car, and traded it in for way below value.

I have learned over the years that any effort to calm her down are fruitless.

Just come home from a drive home of hell.

Going out was OK. Police out in force but that's fine. Going down through a pass called Smith's Gap, it started to sleet on me... not nice but OK... didn't last long, just the 2 nasty bends and the steep downhill section (it's tarmac so not ideal and water always floods across the carriageway on the bend but we know it and are used to it. )

Coming home was another matter entirely. Bare in mind that yesterday was 22°C.... Going up Smith's Gap, i noticed a single 4x4 coming towards me that was white. White 4x4's of that age are unusual. As it got closer I realised that not only was it white in colour but it was also covered in a decent layer of snow... at the top of the gap a P plater (recently passed L plate test but not yet fully qualified, there are 2 levels of P platers in my state, this was a red P plate and they are reckless and the cause of a lot of accidents) fails to get passed me before the top where we drop back to 1 lane. So I'm doing 80kph, the limit with a Red P plater just off my bumper (close enough not to be able to see the reg plate) and we're approaching a nasty section of road where it's twisty, windy and up and down and if it rains, aquaplaning is a real risk. To make it worse, the 80kph limit raises to 100kph just before a busy road junction, so I deliberately hold them back to 80 because there are vehicles on either side of the junction waiting... I'm also thinking where did that snow vehicle come from? It should have melted at 5°C... and add i think this the cast informs me of possible icy roads as the temp drops to 1°C. And all of a sudden I'm driving in 2-3 inches of snow! The idiot is still on my bumper and the last thing i want to be doing is 80kph (in a 100kph area). Desperately trying to slow down before the down and right bend over a narrow bridge which is flooded in the track marks in the snow... wet snow and platers don't mix....

Get through that finally close to home, just going up the hill before our dirt road starts, it's dry and dusty and at the sharp left I meet an empty low loader (breakdown truck). It's too long for the bend so I have no option but to drive off the tarmac on the inside of the bend... (even 2 cars can't pass there, 1 on the inside has to go off road)... there are emergency barriers stopping the other vehicle going off the road because of the drop so it is always the uphill vehicle that has to go off road... no dramas but unusual...

Get to the top of the hill, turn right onto the gravel road and starting to relax. The road is dry and dusty and no sign of rain. Temps 7°C out so not likely to snow etc and... road is blocked ahead by a huge oncoming vehicle towing another... lorry breakdown towing a very large flat bed truck (actually my landlord's as it turned out when it went passed me) but all I can do is get off the road FAST because there is no road available for me...

I've retreated to the sofa. It's safer and warmer. Today is not happening. I've had enough of it already. It's 10:30 am.

So with one week of vacations booked and the Seychelles trip out of the way, I used my TAP flight voucher and booked for a 5 day trip to Athens in October.

Traveling this time is giving me a different feeling, excitement mixed with anxiety. I used to feel unbridled excitement when I planned my travels back in the day, now I'm a bit fearful and cautious, excited about planning but still conscious that things can change fast and the trip may not happen.

My first choice had been Cyprus, but from the night of saturday to sunday the price of the flight I wanted to buy more than doubled and I decided I really want to go somewhere, and Athens seems the best alternative. Now it's time to start planning. I don't have enough days to visit the islands and I've never been fascinated by the Greek islands anyway, but I may take one beach day in Aegina which is close to Athens. And I know there's forum members who been to Greece lately so any advice will be much appreciated :D

I spent two days in Athens around '93. I only remember being on the third floor of a restaurant with an amazing view of the illuminated Parthenon. Other than that, it was all work I'm afraid.

Regarding airline prices, even after 50 years that I've been flying, they are still a mystery to me.

I spent quite a while in Greece Christmas 9¾ years ago... on Sunday access to the Parthenon is free. Worth knowing and worth going early.
Otherwise Athens I wasn't so keen on. One of the islands we visited and loved had been devastated by the fires that were burning last month. I've not heard anything about them this month though, but that could just be me spending more time outside working.
We did spend 6 weeks on Rhodes which was beautiful. But it's an overnight ferry and...
