It's only a couple of years old, and I don't overstock it. I set the temp to 41, and I notice every time I put items in the back against the wall, those items start to freeze, to at least develop ice chips.

I leave several inches at the back and the same at the front. The cooled air from the evaporator comes down out of a vent and prompts a circular flow pattern. Down at the back and up at the front.

I always thought this was an issue with older refrigerators and that newer ones were designed with this in mind. 🤷🏻 Oh well.

I just got my brand new Samsung about a month ago. It's set at 37F and I haven't noticed anything freezing. With my old one everything froze slightly on the top left (it was a side-by-side). My new one has a bottom drawer freezer.

No issues with my side by side, it's a GE, but vertically stacked with freezer on the bottom is a better engineering solution than side by side.

My old one, which is now in the garage, was a 25 year old Maytag. Still going strong. I actually didn't mind having things slightly frozen up on that top left area once I knew about it. It was a very small section that had the issue. The rest of that top shelf, including the back wall, did not freeze. The slightly frozen part is where I kept my water bottles and then yogurt, buttermilk, etc. (which just stayed very cold but didn't freeze) next to them. Worked just fine, it was just not big enough to suit my needs. I really like the digital readout on my new fridge as well. This is the first refrigerator that was big enough for me to not "lose" things in it, LOL!

I used to "lose" things in the microwave...

Not as easy on my back getting stuff out of the freezer, though. I guess I used to keep stuff I was going to use quickly on the upper shelves in the old side-by-side. I have the bottom drawers organized pretty well so I know what/where everything is.

Really happy that I unplugged and cleaned out my old chest freezer and have been able to resist the temptation to buy more stuff to put in it. I am working through my two refrigerator freezers until we get back from our vacations. I have to use some strong willpower but the easiest way is to NOT look at the sales ads!
