I am looking for a vegetable dehydrator because I read in a recipe that it is an essential equipment if I want to make vegetable chips. I have tomatoes waiting in my chiller, so I want to make them into chips. Does anyone know any alternative to a vegetable dehydrator?

an oven on a very low temperature? I do have a recipe that is for kale crisps that states oven.

I do have an Excalibur dehydrator which is excellent, but not cheap.

Sadly, I do not have an oven. I am just considering letting the vegetables dry out under the sun though the weather still isn't sunny here yet.

then your only obvious options are 1) make an outdoor ground oven - but steam will be a problem - they tend not to be dry enough or 2) use solar power in addition to glass - think of a greenhouse and how that warms up. Ventilation will be needed otherwise the condensation will build up - you are trying to dry the very thin slices of veg out, not cook them but it is more than possible to dry fruit, nuts and veg under glass in warmer climates.
