I have malt vinegar (Sarson's) which is purely used for fish and chips. It costs me the equivalent of £2.75 for 300ml. Distilled white vinegar for everything else at a equivalent cost of £0.50 for 700ml.

A mate reckons it started as stale beer from the breweries. Cheap.
