That's a bit dramatic. What's wrong with the place? (apart from its name, according to your historian).
"This is due to the undeveloped technology and living conditions. It is at high elevation (roughly 600 m) and is at risk of earthquakes. In the summertime,July and August, this small, inviting town receives many tourists from Switzerland. People from the United States, Germany and France are also spotted here during the summer months. Younger people, are leaving the town at a fast pace to find employment. They are moving to cities in a process known as urbanization. Many homes in this small town in Calabria, are "for sale" or "vendesi". About 20 years ago, the population was about 10,000. Now, it is currently below 5,900."

History
Before 1783 earthquake its name was Castelmonardo. The earthquake tore it down completely. Reconstruction was realized with an illuminist town planning project highly qualified for the period, grid-like, according to a global quadrangular vision. Nowadays it is still considered a famous example of '700 aesthetic-philosophical ideas. The centre is distinguished by Monsignore Serrao square, with four churches at its corners: Santa Barbara, Madonna del Carmelo, San Teodoro and San Francesco (which holds an important statue of the Saint). The four churches also give names to four town's districts. Read Filadelfia history on www.cittadifiladelfia.com.

It sounds like an interesting place. There is also a pub called the Stone Henge Pub in Filadelfia (another example of British place names!) which unbelievably coincidentally, considering that @classic33 posted Filadelfia post, sells Guinness!

That is a seriously weird name for an italian pizzeria in somewhere so rural.

Maybe he flogs it to them?!!!

I wonder if they get many brit/irish tourists there.
Plenty of American ones.
