What is This?

I’ve decided to include a cup measure to give you an idea of the scale. My wife’s mom brought this over among a variety of different vegetables from her brother’s garden. I had no idea what this was until I cut it open. Can you figure it out?

That's a remarkable likeness, but I'm happy to say that it wasn't hard to cut through, and it was tasty.

Good guess. That's what I first thought, but the flavor wasn't tart at all.

No, but it has seeds.

It looks just like gooseberries we had as kids. I loved them when they turned reddish. Nice and sweet.

This is what it looks like from the inside. The seeds gave it away for me, though I had to eat some of it to be sure.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who couldn’t figure it out from the outside!
