Where do you post when a thread could fit more than one forum?
On CookingBites, recipes and discussions live together in the same forums. The simplest rule is:
Post the thread where the main subject belongs.
Lasagne example
“Lasagne” can mean the pasta sheets, the dish, or the filling, so the best forum depends on what your thread is mainly about.
Are you mainly talking about the base dish (lasagne/pasta sheets), or mainly about the filling/theme (beef, fish, vegetables, cheese, etc.)? Post accordingly.
What if you want ideas, not a specific recipe?
If your thread is “Give me lasagne filling ideas”, that’s still a lasagne thread, so start in Rice, Pasta, Pulses and Grains.
If you’re specifically after meat fillings, fish fillings, or vegetarian fillings, then post in the relevant forum (Meat and Poultry / Fish and Seafood / Vegetables or Vegetarian and Vegan).
Where do “oriental” dishes go?
Use the same rule: what is the thread mainly about?
Example: dim sum. If the thread is about wrappers, dough, steaming methods, and the general concept, then Rice, Pasta, Pulses and Grains is a reasonable home.
If it’s mainly about the filling (prawn, pork, veg), then post where the filling belongs; exactly like the lasagne examples.
What if a thread gets moved?
Threads are sometimes moved when they’ve been posted in the wrong forum, or when the focus of the discussion becomes clearer. This is not a punishment and doesn’t reflect negatively on the member, it’s simply housekeeping to keep the forum organised and make threads easier for others to find.
If you’re unsure why a thread was moved, or think it might fit better elsewhere, please use the report button on the first post and ask a moderator. Please don’t raise it within the thread itself.

- Lasagne in general (history, techniques, types, making lasagne sheets):
Post in Rice, Pasta, Pulses and Grains. - Beef lasagne:
It could fit under pasta, but if the thread is mainly about the beef (meat choices, seasoning, sauces, etc.), post in Meat and Poultry. - Chicken lasagne:
Same logic; Meat and Poultry. - Fish lasagne:
Post in Fish and Seafood. - Vegetable lasagne:
If the focus is the vegetables and combinations, post in Vegetables, Salads and Mushrooms.
You can use Vegetarian and Vegan if the thread is specifically vegetarian/vegan; but “vegetable lasagne” isn’t automatically vegetarian (stock, rennet cheeses, etc.). - Ricotta and spinach lasagne:
Follow the lead ingredient and the focus of the thread. If it’s mainly about ricotta/cheese choice, swaps, or dairy handling, then Eggs, Cheese and Dairy makes the most sense.
If the point is a vegetarian/vegan version, then Vegetarian and Vegan is appropriate (assuming vegetarian ricotta or a vegan alternative). - Chocolate pasta:
Even though it contains pasta, the thread is really about dessert, so it belongs in Sweets and Desserts rather than Rice, Pasta, Pulses and Grains.
