How many times have you cut yourself when using a knife to cut, slice or chop something? It can be quite annoying if it happens too many times. It used to happen to me a lot. Especially when I was younger. But there are things now to help you in the kitchen in avoiding those mishaps to keep you safe. It very seldom happens to me now. Beginners can take advantage of this practice very easily by learning the easy way. Experienced cooks can also brush up on their skills. It's never too early or late to take some time out to get to know how to be safe in the kitchen. Practice makes perfect.

It doesn't happen any more. Once I'd learned how to cut, dice and chop using my knuckles as a guide , and having been coached by a professional chef, cutting fingers/hands - never again. It's all a question of technique. A sharp knife, a rocking movement with the blade, and fingers well out of the way. The bear claw.

I saw that one before. Below is a vid by Gordon Ramsay.

I learned that trick today, using my knuckles as a guide. I need to be careful though.

Yep! I chop that way too. I started off slow but can now chop at speed.

To get out of it the easy way, I sometimes cheat to get it (chopping) done faster. This saves a lot of time in the kitchen. But you gotta be careful when cleaning it. You might cut yourself if you are not careful!!!!!!! I don't touch the blades at all!!!!! I just put it under running hot water while whatever is on it is still soft!!!!!!!
