but I don't like pate or, errr, meat paste-
Over the past few years on CB, I've noticed that almost everyone is picky, in some way or another. That does not include specific allergies or lifestyle choices, of course; but I wonder if there's anyone here who will eat absolutely anything?

Probably not. I know that rascal dislikes tripe and parsley sauce. TastyReuben doesn't love mushrooms or sweet potatoes (but I think he will eat them) and he detests most seafood except fish n chips. SandwichShortOfAPicnic dislikes peas in particular. I think SatNavSaysStraightOn would eat a lot of different foods if she could without going into anaphylactic shock. Morning Glory dislikes mayonnaise. kaneohegirlinaz doesn't care for tomatoes (at least raw ones, not sure about tomato sauce and ketchup).

Windigo doesn't mention not liking foods, only that there are some she can't eat due to dietary restrictions, like SatNavSaysStraightOn and SandwichShortOfAPicnic.

Maybe badjak is a bit more adventerous than most of us but just doesn't have access to as many different kinds of food as the rest of us due to geography? I have never read anything to my knowledge of foods she doesn't care for, but I may have missed something. And I don't recall Barriehie discussing things he doesn't like to eat, but again, I may just not remember correctly. Come to think of it, msmofet doesn't talk about what she doesn't like either to my recollection.

I know for awhile you were sick of pizza after a visit to the US where you ate too much of it and that you don't much like beef.

I don’t know about here, but one of my favorite Jacques Pepin interviews is one where he talks about that.

For those who may not know, that man will eat just about anything. He’s famous for it. He was eating “unusual” things when Andrew Zimmern was still filling his diapers.

In this particular interview, he details the single thing he ate that he didn’t like, and the single thing he refused to eat outright - and of course, I can’t remember what they were and I can no longer find the interview.

No, your memory serves correctly. To date in my life the only thing I can't eat is kidneys. Maybe they weren't prepared properly but that experience, every facet of it, is etched in my mind. Pigs ears would be next but that's a physical limitation with my ability to masticate food and not a dislike of the product offered. :hungry:

I just remembered that vernplum didn't care for whale sushi. Nor would I most likely.

You remembered that lol. :) Well, it was OK but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. I'm much more of a fatty tuna belly sushi lover myself. :p

As for things I don't really like, the ones that spring straight to mind are:
Oysters
Shiitake Mushrooms
Raw celery

Ah, yes I am sure there is not much difference, but I don't like pate or, errr, meat paste--my mom used to eat that potted meat stuff and that pureed chicken stuff in a can. I tried it and am not tempted to do that again, so there you go! I do like bone broth and stock made from a carcass and I don't mind making a soup that way. The thing is, I know exactly what is in it, and there are no hearts, livers, kidneys, or tongues in it. And I am not going to puree it when I am done stripping that meat off the carcass!

..I detest liver when it's cooked as is, or in something like liver and onions. Even bacon can't rescue it.

BUT - I love liver pate!

I don't like peas and there are foods I'm not fond of (like tofu) but will merrily eat certain types or versions of it.
Picky is a word we often use for someone who's deliberately difficult about what they will and won't eat. I reckon most of the likes and dislikes on here aren't about pickiness and more to do with a genuine dislike of a taste, smell or texture.
Maybe down to a bad experience with the ingredient or perhaps it's simply a hard wired 'nope' 🤷‍♀️

Personally if I find an ingredient I don't like I go out of my way to find a version or recipe with it I can enjoy, often that's a segue into liking it in other forms.

But I think that's a hangover from childhood, feeling like I'm supposed to like everything and it's unsophisticated not to, somehow your palate is underdeveloped 🙄
Then I got old and thought who cares. Blast all peas into outer space. Why not, let outer space give peas a chance

I will try anything (allergies permitting) and do. I'm not squeamish, if it's edible I want to try it and as a child inedible too.. playdoh, crayon, sented eraser (rubber over here but thought best not confuse the post 😆) or a quick taste of a marker pen anyone?
At least it wasn't the contents of your nappies. My brother did that more than once, and sand...
