Wine Type for Mulled Wine

It's almost time for the holidays! What kinds of wines do you use for mulled wine? So far, I've liked to use Merlot.

I think that any red wine will do really, but Merlot is a good one. I tend to read the back and if it is described using the words spice or berries, then I think it will probably go. I avoid oaky ones, but that is probably because I do not like these flavours in wine. However, I am by no means a wine connoisseur. I will pretty much drink anything.

Last time I had it, I do think Merlot was used. But really, most red wines should suffice. I'm going to have to learn to make it myself this year because it's really good!

Bit late for a reply but many folk will still be creating their version over the next 2 weeks. Best thing is the cheapest red wine that you would be happy to drink without adulterating it!!
