This weekend walk was in Tapada de Mafra, which used to be the park and hunting grounds of Portuguese royalty. You can take walks in the park and get the chance to see deers, wild boars, birds of prey among others.

Lovely woods you have with all those deer

These used to be the king's hunting parks, back when we still had a king. Hence all the deer. Now that we don't have a monarchy the hunting park is open for visitors, and they have people looking after the animals. There is still hunting though, these animals don't have predators in these woods so the hunting keeps the deer population from growing too much.
