I just posted a review of my new favorite book that I'll never finish, The Food Lab: Better Home Cooking Through Science. Highly recommended.
I never actually took a degree in anything but my post-grammar school education started off in arts, turned to civil engineering, back to arts, and ended up in engineering and nutrition over about 50 years. At my age, I can't be arsed with qualifications, although I could still apply for the certificates etc if I felt like parting with some of my pension.
I don't need a student railcard. Local rail fares down here are free, as are underground and bus fares. When I do travel farther afield, I go for the cheapest option (which can sometimes be cheaper than having a senior railcard thanks to the intricacies of British train fares).A friend of mine got her doctorate when she was in her fifties. I think she was actually a bit pissed off when she got it because it meant she couldn't use her student railcard any more...
We call 'em old grapper's cards round 'ere, or womble passesFurther to the above, she did point out that it wouldn't be too long before she got her old codger's railcard.
I just ordered mine courtesy of Tesco's vouchers (so it cost me nothing). Normally its £30 for the old codger's rail pass. We are way off topic...We call 'em old grapper's cards round 'ere, or womble passes
Nothing new. Personally, since I started the thread and I'm not bothered by the conversation, you can let it go or shut it down. Whatever suits the needs of the forum......We are way off topic...

I never have an vouchers left once I've paid for my shopping!
I have all good intentions of doing that but end up taking the money off my shopping. The only time I've ever doubled up was when I got my microwave and toaster - for some strange reason I got £34.50 of vouchers in one hit, so I thought I'd better spend them quick as there had obviously been a mistake somewhere along the line. The god thing is that Tesco vouchers double in size for certain deals - so £15 of vouchers gets a £30 railcard.
I am working on artistic travel journals from recycled packaging and paper as well as broken jewelry, book pages (paperbacks picked up at garage sales for .05), old maps whatever strikes my fancy
