Hot drink and cake suggested donation , we had plants stalls and raffles ,we raised£900 for a woman's dedicated cancer ward at our local hospital

That sounds nice, what a great thing to do. Now you've piqued my curiosity, and I want to see a study on which type of event yields a higher financial intake, sale versus suggested donations.

Personally I would always go with suggested donations because most people have no idea what a cake is worth, or more to the point what £5 would purchase. I would make a suggestion for a minimum donation to cover goods purchased however.
