Brown Sugar Old Fashioned
Makes one drink

Ingredients
For the brown sugar syrup:
3 TB brown sugar
2 TB water
½ TB maple syrup
½ tsp cinnamon

For the cocktail:
1 oz bourbon
1 oz brown sugar syrup
2-3 dashes of Angostura Bitters
1 x 1-inch orange peel

Directions
Heat the brown sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon and water together on a small saucepan over medium heat. Continue to heat the syrup, stirring occasionally until the brown sugar has fully dissolved. Don’t let the syrup boil. Remove the syrup from the stove and let it cool for a few minutes.

Add the brown sugar syrup and bourbon to a cocktail glass filled with ice. Next add the dashes of bitters. Stir well to mix all the ingredients together.

Twist the orange peel over the drink, and add it in as garnish. Enjoy responsibly!

The CookingBites recipe challenge: brown sugar

Holy crap. You weren't kidding when you referred to this as "brown sugar forward"! When I make an Old Fashioned, I use more sugar than I'm Supposed To Use. I don't make a simple syrup first, so I slosh around maybe 1/2 teaspoon of sugar in glass with ice before mixing in the other ingredients.

I will try your recipe, of course...I'm a bit surprised the straw doesn't stand up on its own in the glass, considering how thick the syrup is.
