The usual peas around here are sold as "English peas" or "garden peas," and they're tiny, and they're not much good for mushy peas - you get a lot of husk:pea innards.I adore them - especially with lots of nutmeg and a splash of vinegar. Funny thing is that I'm not that keen on fresh/frozen peas.
For me it has to be mint sauce (made with lots of malt vinegar)I adore them - especially with lots of nutmeg and a splash of vinegar.
Yes proper mushy peas have to be made with dried and soaked marrowfat peasThe usual peas around here are sold as "English peas" or "garden peas," and they're tiny, and they're not much good for mushy peas - you get a lot of husk:pea innards.
That's why, when I'm at the international market, I make sure to get some big marrowfat peas, specifically for making mushy peas.
I've watched a lot of videos of this fellow:
I do sometimes do "posh mushy peas" with garden peas/petit pois....but you have to add plenty of butter and creme fraiche otherwise they're too dry. Chopped fresh mint is also a nice addition.
Love peas, Hate Mushy peas. Why, I don't know.
They are totally different things in my opinion. Mushy peas are more akin to Indian dal (Yorky has called them Yorkshire dal before now). Its a bit like comparing dried haricot beans with fresh green beans.
How wonderful. I think that straight from the pod they are at their very best. I could eat them that way. That's why.
I got about 20 kilo's of peas from my allotment this summer

Awwww...you used two cute little green pea emojis! Oh, wait...Nope!
Its my grandmothers job to make the mushy peas for Christmas Day dinner. The ones that are soaked overnight in what looks like a surgical stocking.
