Here in our place there is a strict compliance when it comes to food garbage disposal. You should have a food garbage container with cover either for 3 liters or 5 liters and when it is already full you have to put a sticker coming from the government which you should buy like 3 liters or 5 liters same what is the size of your food garbage container before you put it outside your house. The food garbage collector will not get it if without sticker. That is why here in our place you will not see food garbages just being thrown somewhere else. The people are disciplined when it comes to food garbage disposal as well also with our other garbages. And one thing here in our place there are many cctvs in every corner of the street that is why if you will just dispose it anywhere you will be caught and you have to pay a penalty.

How about in your place? How do you dispose your food garbage?

The council does a weekly collection of food waste which goes in a special rather small bin. We have two other bins. One for recyclables like paper and glass. The other is for anything which is non food waste or non recyclable (which turns out to be not much)! They tightened up rules on this recently and we were racking our brains as to what we can put in the non-food, non recyclable bin. The only things we could think of were cat litter and hair balls! And we don't have a cat...

I live in the middle of nowhere, but even here, the local council have introduced collections of various items. We have to keep metal and plastic in one box, glass in another, and food in a small container. There are biodegradable bags for the food to be put into. This container is collected each week. The general refuse is collected every 2 weeks, and the metal, plastic and glass items are collected every 3 weeks.

At work veg trimmings go for pig food and at home we feed the chickens next door or compost,we don't have a pickup

We have a trash pick-up twice a week which is mostly food waste. Paper, glass and boxes are picked up once a week and the lawn cuttings are picked up once a week. This schedule keeps the community very clean. Large items have to be picked up by a special appointment.

Up here in County Durham we have to pay extra to have garden waste collected [and that is only once every two weeks]. Started free then surprise surprise introduced charging - result almost nobody uses it anymore so I'm afraid if they come up with the idea of separate collections for food waste too they can forget about it

We don't have any sort of separate collection here for food waste so honestly most of our food waste gets thrown in the general trash.

In saying that though we rarely if ever waste food - we try to be as mindful as possible about that.

Over here, the village is not so strict with disposal of food. In fact, there are stray animals here that sometimes we see dogs and cats rummaging in plastic bags that contain trash, mostly food. I hope the village will pass an ordinance to that effect because the collection of garbage here is regular, i.e. once a week. But some neighbors would bring out their trash to the side of the street, maybe wanting the animals to get rid of their garbage.

We'll soon have a seven bin system in use for recycling/waste disposal. System is going to be introduced, they just have to work the system out now.

We'l also get to keep the current four containers/bins, including wheelie bin as they can't be recycled.

We don't have separate waste food collections in our area, just recycling & glass and general waste (they alternate so each is collected every two weeks). Garden waste is a paid-for extra (which we don't subscribe to). Although if they did collect food waste I doubt we'd use it: we don't generally waste food and any peelings, offcuts etc. go into the bokashi, which then feeds the garden composter. Our general waste bin is usually less than half full each fortnight.

We are similar. Half a black plastic sack between the 2 of us once every fortnight. We waste very little, though here our composting is collected including food waste. We are lucky where we are though (as we were in Surrey) because green wheelie bins are collected all year round, unlike my parents' which stop prior to the leaves coming off the trees and don't restart until April!

Well, we have no home garbage pick up in this place, and garbage disposals are not practical either due to the well. It was great when I had a dog, he took care of a lot of leftovers. Usually any leftover food goes in the garbage and we take them to local pick up points here.
