That's another band I like, The Derailers.TR, you and I are repeat offenders at thread derailing. Even if it is "your" thread.
Now, what were we talking about?

I'm thinking about starting a Zoom-only band with JASOH1 - The Sidetrackers. Or if we want to be kind of New Wave-ish, Tangents. There's also a band I like called The Interrupters. Similar concept, though the band are different.
So now I found your recipe for basil smash! Will give it a go once I acquire potted herbs...For those interested in variations using other spirits, basil smashes are apparently a little sub genre of cocktails. I easily found vodka, rum, and bourbon basil smashes online, so if you prefer one of those, maybe take a quick peek at a recipe, as the ingredients can change a bit.
I even saw a recipe for a piña colada basil smash! Hmmmmm...
GIN-BASIL SMASH
1 Cocktail
Ingredients
10 leaves fresh basil
2 ounces simple syrup
2 ounces lemon juice
4 ounces good quality gin
ice cubes
Directions
Combine basil leaves, simple syrup and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker.Crush the basil till bruised with a muddler, which will release the oils. The juice might start to turn green, this is ok!
Pour in the gin and ice cubes, place lid on top of the shaker.
Shake the container until the outside of the cocktail shaker is freezing cold. This is how you know the drink is cold enough!
Strain into a tall cocktail glass, add additional ice to the top and enjoy!

The Only Simple Syrup Recipe You Need
Note: others on the board may have a variation of this basic recipe
The Only Simple Syrup Recipe You Need
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
Steps
- Add the sugar and water to a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir until sugar is dissolved.
- Let cool, then pour into a glass jar and seal tightly with a lid.
- Simple syrup will keep, refrigerated, for about one month.
I also use bar simple syrup, which is equal parts water and quick-dissolve sugar (sometimes sold as bar sugar) shaken up in a jar until the sugar dissolves, and used on the spot.Ok gotcha. I thought it might have been something like that.
