Recipe Miser Wat - Ethiopian lentil stew

Thats really odd. What are the round yellowy things at the front of the bowl? Not that I'm in any sense disbelieving you!

They could well be split red lentils just not cooked to the point of them disintegrating. It usually takes mine a good 45 minutes coming to get to puree stage whereas they cook in about 20-30 minutes. But following the instructions to the letter, the lentils are cooked for an hour, so that theory fails... It could be the difference in makes and organic and non-organic red lentils?
 
I am going to try this next week and try to make a decent picture, thank you for the recipe :)
