Hi All,

Delighted to join CookingBites and excited to gain and learn new skills.
I absolutely love cooking, baking and thrive in the kitchen. I especially enjoy trying out new recipes and learning new techniques.
I'm thinking of opening a floating dinner restaurant serving a seven-course Shabbat dinner on a boat cruising on the local canal in London.
It would be a chance to experience traditional Jewish Cuisine dishes prepared according to Jewish law and spend quality time with friends and family in a tranquil atmosphere and unique vibe.
I would love to hear your thoughts, suggestions and advice and would be most interested in knowing if this is something that you would be interested in experiencing.
For those interested in recipes just let me know and i'll be delighted to share!

All the best,

Dee

Hi Dee, welcome from Ohio USA! I hope you like it here. I wish you great success with your restaurant endeavor. :highfive:

Another welcome from Ohio! I love the idea of a floating restaurant. We went to Paris last Autumn and had a fabulous meal on one, very nice!

Welcome from Maidstone, Kent.

I know little about Jewish Cuisine other than that there are certain strict 'laws' in terms of food preparation. I do have a Jewish cookbook though.

You might well have a great idea in terms of a floating restaurant specialising in Jewish cuisine (and not only for Jewish clients).

Welcome from Texas.

If you want to own a restaurant, cooking skills is just part of it. It's a tough business. Make sure you don't need to make a profit to live on for at least a year. And, make sure you have someone involved that is an ace at accounting/bookkeeping.

The only religion related cuisine I know about is Lutheran, which means lots of casseroles, and pot-luck dinners. Lutherans also eat a lot of pork, which isn't going to help your restaurant.

Thank you. Indeed there a quite strict laws but I intent to market this mostly to the general public and those who would be most interested in experiencing a unique cultural cuisine that they most likely never had before. So its not necessarily for Jewish people (who are already familiar with these foods) but all are welcome.
Thank you for the encouragement!

Thank you for your wonderful pointers to think about! But they say, when you do the job you love you don't work a day in your life; but I certainly need money to live:happy:
Casseroles... Yum!!

Hi from Brighton, Ma.!!!

I wish you good luck on your desire to start a new restaurant!! It's a tough business, & I hope that your game plan runs smoothly. :whistling:

Welcome.

A restaurant on a canal boat sounds like a fantastic idea. Do you have previous experience running a restaurant? I have no experience myself but I would be wary trying to provide a 7 course meal from the start with the limited galley space available, perhaps start by serving simple, crowd pleasing, homely dishes whilst you build up your experience, and move upscale when you have established the business. Good luck, I would certainly be interested in coming for a meal if I'm in London.

Thank you for the encouragement. I don't have experience running a restaurant yet, but gotta start somewhere:okay: Though I have vast experience cooking the 7 course meal as I cook it every week. Will be adding simple menus as well:)
