Outdoor BBQ in winter

Like you I live in the UK. I have a barbecue, but I hardly ever use it. In fact, I think I have only hosted 3 barbecues ever and then two further barbecues just for the family. I have never hosted one in the winter though. If I did, I would just cook outside and then bring the food inside to eat.
 
I remember my first outside BBQ very well. Boxing Day 1978. Beers chilling in the snow mounds, temperature somewhere between 5 - 8 but dry. I thought they were mad but it worked brilliantly.
Admittedly, this was not in the UK and is considered 'normal'! Not something I would generally try in the UK because it is usually so damp and cold.
