Uni (Sea Urchin's Gonads)

Sea urchin gonads. Have you tried them? If so, what is your opinion. We were skeptical at first, but they aren't bad. We've only had the green urchins from the northern Atlantic. What I see most often on cooking/travel shows are the black, California variety. I want to try those and my bud that gave us the abalone has offered to ship me some If I can't get them locally.

I've never prepared it myself, but I always look for it when I go to sushi restaurants. It's very savory, with a texture something like a pate.

Urchin is on my to have list. Its virtually impossible to find in or out of restaurants in the UK despite the fact it is plentiful in our seas (I believe). I long to try it! Usually I can get things on-line but not in this case...

In London, there are two Fish Mongers that have Sea Urchin:
